More Wolves
Our classmate, Sharee, shot this wolf with her camera last Sunday near Winchester. Thanks to everyone who came. Here are some common statements about wolves you all might want to think about. These statements might also appear as true or false questions on your optional final exam.- Wolves are "viscious killing machines" that often kill without purpose.
- Wolves devastate elk herds and leave hunters with fewer elk to kill.
- Wolves are now devasting Idaho's domestic sheep population.
- Wolves are now devastating Idaho's domestic cattle population.
- Ranchers are not reimbursed for their losses to wolves.
- Most livestock losses to wolves go undetected.
- Wolves are very dangerous and commonly attack people.
- Wolves are causing serious economic harm to local communities.
- Wolves from Canada were used for reintroduction to central Idaho and Yellowstone and so they are not native to Idaho.

John Daniel's "The Far Corner"
Thanks to those of you who were able to attend our last class before the break to welcome our guest, author John Daniel, who blended into our class almost effortlessly. John has expressed his willingness to answer any follow-up questions on speaker phone. As the author of a forthcoming book of essays entitled The Far Corner, we might notice that's exactly where he chose to stand for this photograph—in the far corner. He killed a deer on our recent trip to Montana, a doe, his first. I also appreciate your coming to our last class prepared with your homemade books for him to sign.
